LEJOG Day 9 - Grantown on Spey to Lairg (91 miles)

Hello again everyone, hope you have all had a good day.

Day 9 has been one of spectacular views, stunning scenery and more long miles with the odd beastie of a climb thrown in.

This photo was taken by another rider of me, as i was reaching the summit of yet another steep one, doesn't the weather and view look great. Today's route also took me through the fair city of Inverness. alongside the Beauly Firth for quite a few miles, Bonar Bridge, past the Kyle of Sutherland and through the Shin Forest.... it was quite an experience.

Whilst in Shin Forest, I took ten minutes out to see the 'Falls of Shin' (pictured here). This is famous for when Salmon swim up stream, against the current, to leap up and over these falls to get to their breeding waters, it is indeed amazing.

I then headed a few more miles to the afternoon brew stop. It is a joy to see (pictured) with some essential food and drink to keep up my energy levels, strength, stamina and the all important nutritional intake to complete these distances whilst maintaining good blood sugar level and hydration.

Whilst up high today, overlooking Inverness, you could see the Moray firth to the East, the Beauly Firth to the West and centrally the Kessock Bridge, which i cycled across (quickly as i am not that keen on heights...... I was the fastest 62 year old in the UK for a few minutes crossing)

As you can see, I have taken quite a few photos today, I think some realisation has struck home that I am now only 1 day away from achieving something rather special. Part of me simply doesn't want to let go and leave this behind, so i have been Mr. photoshoot man today also.

Loch Shin and a nice bridge in Inverness

Today was a warm one, which didn't help too much on the climbs, however, my old legs are hanging in there. Parts of my body now ache in places i wouldnt have thought possible. Our human body is amazing though and if it is in line with a good mind set, then anything can be possible.

It is easy to give up, but it is harder to succeed, where there's a will, there 'will be a way'

Tomorrow is the 10th and final day and one which will surely be emotional, it will be an early start with a good 95 miles to ride, I remain very determined to finish at John O'Groats to make my family, all of my supporters, all of you and the Born Free Foundation proud.

Have a good evening all, take care all and I'll see you tomorrow.
