Good evening all, I hope you are keeping well.
I have now completed a long, hot day 3 and am now settled in my B&B in Bewdley, Worcestershire.
Today I have witnessed some historic and awe inspiring land marks, such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge (pictured left), the Old Severn Crossing and Chepstow Racecourse, which was much bigger than I ever imagined.
Today's challenge was another stiff one (no one said it would be easy I guess!!), with many hill climbs under the blazing sun and heat, i certainly think that summer has now arrived. I took on a lot of fluid today (tea 'with sugar' water, some with Electrolyte's) and actually fed myself constantly with snacks, protein bars and fruit too. I must say that it did make me feel better when riding.
As the ten day challenge progresses, i will become fitter, especially in the legs and also my recovery time. My legs feel fine now and I am now developing a handsome biker's tan..... lower arms and sections of my legs between my socks and bib shorts...... Nice one!
Over the past two days, I have enjoyed being visited by some old Navy friends (Shipmates - Nico, Kev, Mike, Sara & doggy Romy) to pass on their encouragement and best wishes, also today when good friends from the Born Free Foundation (Mandy, Simon and doggy Ted) met me as I passed through Ledbury, which was very nice.
May I say that all of your kind wishes and words of encouragement have inspired me on this cycle challenge.
Today was a hot one, with many hours again in the saddle, tomorrow will also be a challenge with 103 miles ahead of me. The Peak Tours staff and my fellow riders have been first class, the support awesome and after three days hard graft, a strong bond is building up between all riders, encouragement all round.
I am a touch weary, so i will now sign off, however, I wish to thank you all again for following my blog with interest and also for your very kind and generous donations via my Just Giving page.
I'll post my Day 4 blog tomorrow, so until then, keep safe and have a nice evening.
Thanks
Mark
