LEJOG Day 4 - Bewdley to Haydock (103 miles)

Hello again everyone, well today I completed day 4, which was a hot one, as well as long of course. The weather was lovely first thing this morning as this picture shows, the river Severn running through Bewdley. The first stint between the start and morning drinks at Ironbridge was hilly and a challenge in itself, however I arrived safely. The next stint was between Ironbridge and Wem in Shropshire, where I enjoyed the best lunch of the week.

On leaving Ironbridge, there was a very steep and long hill climb, which did come as a bit of a shock, but I managed to get up..... I did think I was going to need 'crampons and rope' at one stage.

I then followed the GPS route towards Wem in Shropshire, which used to produce a mean pint of bitter a few years ago, from the Wem Brewery. I found my way to the lunch stop and enjoyed the great food on offer, yummy.

Heading now towards Cheshire and the Bickerton Hills, the sun really did start to come strong, I was plastered in sun cream, however, this evening, it does look like I have been shipwrecked on an exposed beach in the tropics for weeks (at least the traffic will see me)

'Cows Stop Play' !!!!

Its a good job that I wasnt on a downslope unable to brake, as this is what I saw when I rode around one corner. Fortunately I did stop and was chatting to the farmer, he was a good bloke but when he suggested I get an 'electric bike' I could have pulled his udder!! then I thought actually, if someone had offered me that on day 1, I may have considered it (not really)

So, I arrived safely at my hotel in Haydock at around 6.30pm, happy to be here and running that hot bath. My legs are holding up, however, I have a massage booked at 8.30pm to work them over and loosen them up a bit..... great.

Tomorrow folks, watch out for my special edition (half way through) blog.

May I again extend my sincere thanks to all of you who have messaged me with words of total encouragement, as well as your kind donations, these are simply keeping me going.

Take care all and see you tomorrow.
