Hello everyone, this was a good day, long certainly, hot yes, but I have arrived safely in Moffat, Scotland.
The day started off well with a lovely ride through the Lake District, passing through Windermere, Bowness, Rydal, Grasmere and Keswick, there were some stunning views such as the photo (left). The first brew stop today was at Thirlmere, which was very welcome after some stiff hill climbs.
I set off after the morning brew stop with my next target destination, Dalston (near Carlisle) where I enjoyed a lovely lunch of sandwiches and home made tomato soup, lovely jubbly and with 50 miles done. The scenery was spectacular throughout today, it is very noticeable how the landscape and features change as I continue to cycle north towards 'Bonny Scotland'
Then a big moment when this afternoon I saw and passed through this sign at Gretna Green,
I was delighted to have reached Scotland. It is a significant milestone on this challenge, however I do need to remain focused as there are still four days to go before I hopefully reach the holy grail of John O'Groats
My thanks go to the local council for putting this sign up to welcome me into Scotland, how kind is that!!
Tomorrow I head for Perth via Edinburgh and naturally through more stunning countryside. Whilst cycling through Scotland, I hope to catch a glimpse of some fabulous wildlife too, such as Red Squirrels, Deer, Highland Cattle and Birds of Prey.
Here now for you all is my fact of the day: Since day 1 I have climbed a total of 44,500 feet, Everest is only 29,030 feet. It makes you think doesn't it.
As I have said on other blogs, I feel totally humbled by all of the kind words and messages of support I have received, these 'really do' keep me going, as well as the thought of helping The Born Free Foundation
Have a good evening all, take care all and I'll see you tomorrow.
